Turning Research into Better Product Experiences at Sage

Improving AR Automation through quantitative research and cross-team collaboration

Overview

My Start in UX Research & FinTech

📌 Role: UX Researcher 📅 Timeline: October 2025 – Present

I currently work at Sage as a UX Researcher as part of their graduate program, which emphasizes professional development and the growth of key soft skills through a structured learning experience. In this role, I contribute to improving the user experience of an AR Automation product by supporting data-informed product decisions and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

A major focus of my work has been developing and strengthening the quantitative research process for the team while working toward becoming a subject matter expert in Pendo, a product experience platform used to analyze user behavior, gather feedback, and guide users within the application. Through this work, I help uncover insights that inform product improvements and drive better user outcomes.

The Challenge

Diving Deep into Financial Software

One of the biggest challenges in my current role has been stepping into the world of financial software. While my background is rooted in UX and digital experiences, working within fintech requires developing a deeper understanding of complex financial workflows. Concepts like accounts receivable, accounts payable, e-invoicing, and tax processes are core to the product and essential to understanding how users interact with it.

Learning these systems has required me to look beyond the interface and truly understand the operational flows behind the product. By working closely with the product itself and collaborating with cross-functional teams, I’ve been able to steadily build that knowledge and connect financial processes with the user experience. While it has pushed me into unfamiliar territory, it has also been an exciting opportunity to expand my perspective and grow within a new industry.

My Role & Impact

Driving Product Insights Through Research & Analytics

Quantitative UX Research

I support discovery research focused on understanding why newly onboarded users fail to adopt the AR Automation product. Through survey research and contextual analysis of companies and industries, I help uncover patterns in user goals, onboarding confusion, and potential gaps between product capabilities and user expectations.

Product Analytics & Pendo Optimization

I am leading efforts to audit and standardize analytics within Pendo, reviewing page tags, feature tags, and track events to improve data accuracy and usability. By aligning naming conventions and removing outdated or redundant events, I help ensure product teams can confidently use analytics to understand user behavior and inform decisions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

My work involves collaborating closely with researchers, product managers, designers, engineers, and stakeholders to align on research goals and translate insights into actionable product improvements. Through regular research syncs and readouts, I help ensure user insights inform product conversations across teams.

Onboarding Experience Evaluation

In partnership with the Growth and Adoption Product Manager, I review new onboarding sessions weekly to identify product defects, areas of user friction, and successful adoption patterns. These observations have sparked discussions with stakeholders around improving onboarding workflows and refining the early product experience.

Key Takeaways

What I’ve Learned So Far

  • Curiosity as a Superpower: Curiosity continues to be one of the most valuable tools in my work. Asking questions, digging deeper into unfamiliar concepts, and exploring how things work has helped me navigate a new industry and uncover meaningful insights.

  • Understanding the “Why”: Strong research always starts with understanding why something exists. Whether it is a product feature, a workflow, or a user behavior pattern, identifying the underlying motivation helps create insights that are far more impactful.

  • Collaboration Across the Business: Working at a large company like Sage has shown me the value of connecting with people across teams. Learning from product managers, designers, engineers, and stakeholders across the organization helps build a broader understanding of the product and the business as a whole.
